Each team plays 10 games with 3 byes each. We hope to get 5 teams this year. Last year, we had a GREAT time on and off the ice...

The Summer League is geared toward everyone having fun, working on skills, encouragement, teaching, learning and friendly competition.

Metro will divide players so there will be beginner to advanced skaters on each team, providing parody amongst the teams. We ask that you pass the puck around allowing all to participate. This is a team sport and we encourage team play at all times. Skaters of equal skill level may play hard against each other but need to give the newer skaters time with the puck also. This is strongly encouraged.

We reserve the right to move skaters after the season starts to keep parity. We will do our best to balance the teams at the beginning of the season, so you will be asked your skill level.

(1)Beginner-first year in hockey, learning the game
(2)Rec-1-3 years playing, but still fairly new at the sport
(3)Rec Advanced-3+ years playing. Know the game, but need work on the skills
(4)Intermediate-5+ years playing, know the game, good skills
(5)Advanced-started playing as a child thru high school-advanced skills

Each team will have a team leader who will handle the duties of:
*positions (don't be afraid to request a position you don't normally play, this is the time to broaden and improve you skills)
*making sure the roster is at a minimum of 10 skaters, (this will require that you notify your leader of your absence so a sub can be called in)
*Handling of jerseys
*supplying pucks
*collecting score sheets
*collecting sub money
*Handing out game the schedule with a reminder sent out each week.
*etc., I am sure we can think of more.

Metro has Zero tolerance for unsportsmanlike conduct, and reserves the right to exclude skaters who do not adhere to being a good sport.

Blades Light the Lamp

The Brew City Blades tournament team played in the 1st Annual Light the Lamp Against Leukemia Tournament at the Ozaukee Ice Center. As usual, they made waves, and finished the tournament in second place.

On Saturday, March 29th, they came out on top in an exciting first game against the Vikings, with a 3-2 win. The first goal was scored by Laurie Harrigan, with the assist by Kristin Kobylinski. The second goal was scored by Dawn Ninnemann, with the assist by Nikki Mishler. The deciding goal was scored by Jan Wardman assisted by Dianna Bednar and Karen Barney.

The second game that day was against the rival Madison Lightning team. This game was a barn burner, and was only decided in a shootout. The final score was 3-2. The first goal was scored by Sue Mishler, and the second by Dawn Ninnemann. In the shootout, Mitch Janich scored after seven others failed to, clinching the game.

The final game on Sunday was a heart breaker which they lost 4-3 against the Kettle Moraine U-19 team. It was a hard fought, but fun game, and it resulted in a second place finish for the Blades in the tournament.

Blades are Number One!!!

After an extremely successful first season, the Brew City Blades B team took home first place in the WCHL White Division championship playoffs.

Their first game was a heartbreaking one point loss in overtime on Friday, March 7th. They battled the Quad Cities Blueliners to a 1-1 tie, only to lose it by one point in sudden death overtime.

The next day, Saturday, March 8th, things started to look up. Their first game against the Evanston Tigers resulted in a 2-0 win. Later that same day, they dominated the Chicago Flash, to win 5-1.

The first game the following day, Sunday, Mach 9th started with a harrowing win in overtime over the Madison Lightning. The final goal was scored with less than a minute left on the game clock, to clinch the 3-2 victory.

This win advanced them to the championship game, which was a rematch with the Quad Cities Blueliners. This time, they didn't let the women from the Quad Cities get the best of them. They came out swinging and ended up winning the game 2-1.

After an exhausting weekend and five games, our ladies from the Brew City Blades managed to come out on top. Outstanding results for their first year in the league!

Congratulations to the Brew City Blades B Team!!

Spring skills clinic!!

Once again, Metro Milwaukee Womens Hockey is very excited to offer a 10 week skills clinic Monday nights at Eble Ice Arena 7-830 pm for $125. It starts in only two weeks on March 17th, so let's get the word out now! This is for women of all skill levels. The 1 1/2 hr sessions each week include shooting, passing, stick handling and skating instruction, followed by scrimmages.

It is first come first served, and we are limiting it to 30 skaters to keep it a quality experience for all. This is a great lead in for the 2nd annual summer hockey league!

See you on the ice!

Lucky Ducks take flight in 2008 Labatt Pond Hockey Tournament

(From left to right: Dawn Ninnemann, Mitch Janich, Julie Wilson, Karen Barney, Laurie Harrigan, Sue Mishler)

The Lucky Ducks, made up of our very own Sue Mishler, Laurie Harrigan, Mitch Janich, Dawn Ninnemann, Julie Wilson and Karen Barney played in the 2008 Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Championships, in Eagle River, WI this weekend.

They won their first game at 12:30, Friday February 15th against the 6 Pack On Ice. On Saturday at 9:00 AM, they lost their second game to the Phoenix Scorpions, but were able to recover at 1:45 PM with a win against the Lady Hawks.

That put them in third place overall in the women's portion of the competition. They took a swing through the semi-finals on Sunday, February 17th, with a rematch against the Phoenix Scorpions. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as they lost that game by one point, to come in third place overall in the women's portion of the championship.

So the Ducks flew back south to Milwaukee. Tune in next year to see how the Lucky Ducks fare in the 2009 Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Championships.

Brew City Blades at the Badger State Games

This year, the Brew City Blades B Team is attending the Badger State Games for the very first time.

The first day of hockey is over, and so far our beloved Blades have split the games.

The first game was a 3-1 win over Janesville. The second game was a close defeat at the hands of the Madison Lightning, the final score being 1-2.

Sunday's hockey was just as mixed a bag. After winning Sunday against the Freeze Sicles, and making it to the Bronze Medal round, the Blades lost 3-0 against the Fox Cities Ice Cats.

So the Blades came in at fourth place. Not bad for their first Badger State tournament. They can certainly hold their heads high, and start planning for next year's Badge State Games...

The Brew City Blades take on Florida

(Front Row: Kristin Kobylinski, Heidi Perz, Sue Mishler. Second Row:Rose Fortier, Laurie Harrigan, Marie Branovan, Dawn Ninnemann, Maggie Aliota, Amy Westrup, Deb Donovan, Mary Cunningham, Mitch Janich. Not pictured: Whitney Abene, Cynthia Rockwell, Leanne)

The Brew City Blades had a great time at the South Florida Hockey Classic Tournament! Even though we came in fourth out of four teams, I don't think any other team had as much fun as we did. We might not have been the best team, but we impressed everybody with that Wisconsin niceness!

The tournament started out well enough, with a win over the Jacksonville Barracudas. That game was followed by losses to the Minnesota Synergy, and the Lady Everblades, and a final loss to the Barracudas.

I would like to commend Amy for inspiring us all with her perseverance even in the face of skating with one artificial leg. We just hope that Huggies will continue to sponsor her.

A big shout needs to go out to our goalie, who we all met the first day of the tournament: Leanne! She kept us from being completely annihilated on more than one occasion. We were glad that she was on our side.

The weather was much nicer than Milwaukee, and gave us the opportunity to soak up some rays, see some sights, and really bond as a team.

So ladies, it's back to the snow, but we've got memories of Florida to keep us warm!
